Torremolinos, probably the most heard of resort in Costa del Sol was once a quiet and quaint fishing village. The love affair with Torremolinos goes back to the 1960's and 1970's which gave it its fame for its holiday on a budget market as well as for its numerous clubs, pubs and nightclubs. Even though this catapulted Torremolinos into the limelight, it also gave it a reputation which has taken a number of years to dispose of. Torremolinos is also referred to as the Gay Capital of Costa del Sol due to the numerous gay clubs, bars etc.
Today, Torremolinos is undergoing a major regeneration and having a massive facelift to tired and outdated 1970's properties and is once again becoming a very desirable location. There has been a lot of work done to Torremolinos to improve the "concrete jungle" image including many new public gardens. There are two parts to Torremolinos, the centre which was the first to be developed and La Carihuela which has managed to retain its Spanish character. Many of the original fisherman's cottages still exist, even if they have been renovated.
The Paseo which runs along the beach front runs from Playamar, past La Carihuela along to Benalmadena Marina. The beaches are clean and sandy and are wider and longer that other beaches in the Costa del Sol.

Geographically, Torremolinos is situated west side of Malaga city approximately 13 km, behind the Sierras de Mijas and costal side of the A7 dual carriageway. It covers a surface 20 kilometres square and has a population of 3153.85 inhabitants per square kilometer, this rises sharply during holiday season.
Torremolinos is sheltered by the Sierra de Mijas and therefore benefits from an average of 320 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 22 degrees centigrade.
Accessibility to Torremolinos could not be easier as you can reach it via train, regular bus service as well as taxi.
