Can we help you with your search for property in Ojen?
Ojen is a small whitewashed typical Andalucian Pueblo situated East of Marbella and accessed of the A 355. It has all the typical characteristics and meets the visitor's expectations in its charm, atmosphere, and narrow streets and of course some amazing views.
Ojen dates as far back as the Middle Paleolithic era, the area was inhabited by Neanderthals, who lived in nomadic groups, as seen in the Cueva de Pecho Redondo.
The first recorded evidence of the village of Ojen is in the Chronicle of the deed of the emirs Cordoban. In this it is recorded that Abderraman III started a battle to bring the rebellious groups of Mozaraba to Malaga. One of the battles that took place during this time between the army and the group of rebels took place in front of the castle walls in Ojen. After he was defeated Abderraman was captured and finally released from Ojen. The church in Ojen was then converted form a church to a mosque. During the Moorish occupation of the area Ojen exported raisins, dried figs, almonds, silk, wax and honey to North Africa.
No Muslims were allowed to live on the coast and were sent to Ojen to live. During this time Ojen had a population of 114 and out of this only 4 were Christians.
In 1588 there was a rebellion by the Moors of Istan and in 1569 they were joined by the Moors of Ojen after there villages were destroyed and houses burnt by the Spanish.
After the war ended in 1570 Ojen was repopulated by the Catholic Spanish population.
All around the Ojen area there is a variety of wildlife including the beautiful Ibex, which is a protected species and is virtually extinct as well as the Golden Eagle. Within the surrounding vicinity and forests there is a wealth of nature and species to be found.
It is an area ideal for those wishing to spend time outdoors and go hiking and climbing as all these facilities are on the doorstep.
Within Ojen like in many of the smaller villages you will find a complete contrast to the coastal areas. Those who choose to live in smaller villages quickly find themselves involved in the local community as well as involved in many aspects of life in a Spanish village. You will find people who go on about their daily routine uninterrupted by influx of tourists and a population level very much level all year round.
Above Ojen and on the side of the A355 you will find a Mirador which is a lovely spot with some amazing views extending to North Africa on a clear day, this is a very popular stop for tourists on their way to other locations such as Monda.
Even though on the outskirts of Marbella and a stones-throw away from La Caniada shopping centre, you will find property prices in Ojen are lower to those on the coast along with a difference in architecture and general cost of living.
When looking to purchasing property in Ojen, you will find there are some great properties for sale in Ojen as well as some of the most stunning views over Marbella and the mediterranean coast line. Property prices in Ojen vary, however, you will find that just a short drive from Marbella has a considerable impact on the price of properties in Costa del Sol.
