Mijas is divided into two sectors, Mijas Pueblo and Mijas Costa, it is said that Mijas has one of the biggest expansions covering an area of 148km2 and has a population in the region of 60,000 inhabitants.
Mijas Pueblo is probably one of the most visited villages throughout the Costa del Sol. Mijas Pueblo or Mijas Village, is situated 428 metres above sea level and has remained one of the jewels in the crown of Andalucian White washed pueblos.

Mijas is also famous for its donkey rides which show visitors around this beautiful village. Mijas dates back to 800 BC and was established by the Phoenicians as an important trading centre. There is evidence of the further conquest of Mijas in the churches and monuments dating back to the Roman, Moorish and Spanish occupation. Mijas also has one of the few oval bullrings, which still holds bullfights to this day.
As a complete contrast, Mijas Costa has seen a lot of new buildings spring up over the past few decades as well as a big influx of tourism due to its proximity to the coast as well as all the attractions for tourists in Fuengirola and along the coastal strip.
Las Lagunas is the modern part of town, where the industrial and commercial areas are situated. This nucleus is linked to Fuengirola, separated only by the A-7, forming a single conurbation. Los Olivos was constructed originally between 1983-1984 and totally refurbished (2000-2001). This course lies in a smaller plot of land, and has different characteristics to its brother. The greens are smaller with ondulations and well protected by bunkers. It also has a large number of olive trees (hence its name) strategically situated around the fairways, this layout demand a strong and straight drive from the player.
Both courses pay homage to the architect's philosophy "difficult Par, easy Bogey" with very little rough, plenty of water and relatively flat.
Mijas today is still a beautiful and quaint white-washed village which offers visitors and house hunters a chance to relax and take in the traditional Spain, whilst only being a short drive down the hill to the coast.
