The historical town of Estepa is situated in eastern Seville province located just off the A92 dual carriageway some 110 kilometres from Seville City and approximately 85 kilometres from Malaga City.
During the mid 1960's Estepa was classified as a national heritage site, its population is in excess of 13,000 inhabitants, making it a sizeable town and considered as the most significant communication hub for public transport north of Antequera.
Its rich and diverse history can be traced back to pre-historic times and archeological remains established links to as far back as the Chalcolithic period.
The early colony was named Astapa and after it was inhabited by the Romans they renamed it Ostippo. After a period of time it became the city of Conventus Astigitanus and was given the status of a Roman Municipality.
Hundreds of years later when the moors attacked and occupied this part of Spain they renamed the town Istabba and its fortified castle became a building of great importance.
King Fernando III recaptured Estepa early on in the Reconquest. During this period, life in Estepa became more stable and the town established itself as a centre of the prime agricultural trade for this farming region of Andalucia.
This small town is made famous for the bisquits it produces known as Mantecados and Polvorones which are baked each Christmas and are sold across the region of Andalucia. The local bakery employs 2,000 locals over a 3 month period and they produce 20 000 000 kilograms of sweets.
Today, Estepa is a modern and thriving town with plenty of activities and fiestas; it is one of the most important towns in the area with excellent commercial and shopping facilities as well as comprehensive amenities. The main feria is celebrated on August 15th when the locals remember Our Lady of La Asuncion, by parading through the village carrying torches and flares.

The most impressive of these is the18th Century Palacio de los Marqueses; it was declared a National Historic Artistic Monument in 1984. The Archaeological Museum hosts a collection of local finds dating back to the Paleolithic period. This was built as a school in 1636 was later turned into a prison and then back into a school until been turned a museum.
As well as these great historical points of interest, Estepa counts with many others. Estepa is town which over the past years has attracted many foreigners wishing to relocate to the area or to purchase holiday homes.
