The area of Calahonda which is situated Westside of Fuengirola and 16km to the East of Marbella and can be deemed to be a direct result of supply and demand from the tourist industry. In real terms it is a relatively new resort area which can be accessed from the N340 dual carriage way which is situated between the coastline and Calahonda or via the AP7 toll road which starts in Fuengirola and bypasses Calahonda to the north.
Due to its nature, Calahonda is predominantly new builds from the past two decades with a mixture of apartment complexes as well as independent villas.

The two golf courses at La Cala are the main attraction of the resort. Both, La Cala North (Par 73) and La Cala South (Par 72) have been designed by North American architect Cabell B. Robinson. La Cala Resort is an exclusive residential and recreational complex of approximately 1,000 acres situated between the 'Sierra de Mijas' National Park and the Mediterranean.
A short distance along the coast is the port of Cabopino. It is one of the most secluded and picturesque ports along the coast and is renowned for its good food that the numerous restaurants provide. The beaches that surround are also a great place to visit, as the sheltered sunbathing areas and the watersports located there offer visitors a variety of leisure activities.
In the hills of Calahonda there is a small Christian monument, a beacon in the area. From this location, on a clear day it is possible to see right along the coast along to Gibraltar and across the waters to the coast of Africa.
