Alhaurin de la Torre is located 18km from Malaga city and within very close proximity of Malaga International Airport. The municipality covers an area of 82 km between the Sierra de Mijas and the Hoya de Malaga, and is crossed by the river Guadalhorce. It is said to have the highest population of Guadalhorce and the third biggest in the province, with more than 35,000 inhabitants, behind Antequera and Ronda.
The newly built business park, next to the town allows residents easy access to shops such as IKEA and other home stores. Adjacent to this park is the large leisure complex of Plaza Mayor, which has been recently expanded and now contains numerous restaurants and a huge variety of retail shops.
Over the years as people working in Malaga City looked at living outside of the city where the streets were less congested and the air was cleaner, Alhaurin de La Torre became a great option due to its easy commuting distance from Malaga City as well as accessibility to the beaches of Costa del Sol.

The name Alhaurin de la Torre literally means The Tower of Allah's garden, although the tower has long gone, the name remained. Surroundng the town are numerous plantations containing citrus fruits and avocado crops.
The gardens at El Retiro are definitely worth a visit, each garden represents a different natural habitat. These gardens were developed by Fray Alonso de Santo Tomas, Bishop of Malaga in the 17th Century during his retirement hence the name.
Alhaurin offers house buyers a great choice of properties from apartments to villas and traditional Spanish houses to modern town houses. Although this town has seen great changes over the last few years, it has still managed to maintain its original Spanish charm. The resort of Sol Andalusi offers well developed health and fitness facilities and has been built as a housing and leisure complex. Set in 150 000 square metres of gardens it offers its residents a quiet and tranquil place to live, whilst being just a short drive from the coast.
